Dr Dame Angela Strank, DBE, FRS, FREng, CEng, FIChemE, DSc, PhD
Angela joined The University of Manchester’s Board of Governors in 2013.
Angela joined BP in 1982 as a geologist in exploration and production, and has since occupied various roles including: Manager, Stratigraphic Services; Senior Business Analyst; Chief Financial Officer, Lubricants; Business Development Manager, Angola; and Technology Vice President, Fuels and Lubricants. In 2013 she was appointed to the role of Vice President, Head of Group Chief Executive’s Office, based in London, providing support for the CEO Bob Dudley in all aspects of managing BP.
In April 2014 BP appointed Angela as Chief Scientist with responsibility for developing strategic options for the company arising from advancements in science and technology. In addition to her Chief Scientist role, Angela also became Head of Downstream Technology for BP in 2015.
Angela was the winner of the UK First Women’s Award in Science and Technology in 2010, an award sponsored by the CBI in recognition of pioneering UK women in business and industry. She is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers and in 2017 was made a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineers.
In 2017 Angela was awarded a DBE in Her Majesty the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her services to the oil and gas industry and for encouraging women into science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) careers.
Angela is an alumna of The University of Manchester, where she gained her doctorate and BSc in Geology.
