Catherine Powell elected as Program Director for the SIAM Activity Group on Uncertainty Quantification

SIAM (the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics) has several Activity Groups, known as SIAGs, which are networks that bring together researchers interested in various branches of mathematics. Each SIAG has four officers: a Chair, Vice Chair, Program Director and Secretary, who are elected by the SIAG’s members every two years. The main role of the Program Director is to oversee the SIAG’s conference schedule.

Uncertainty Quantification (or UQ for short) is a growing, interdisciplinary field that combines several traditional mathematical disciplines in order to understand, represent, quantify and reduce uncertainties associated with predictions made using mathematical models. The UQ SIAG has several hundred members worldwide.
