Centre for New Writing student scoops Distinguished Achievement accolade

Kathryn Tann, Creative Writing MA student at the Centre for New Writing, has received a Distinguished Achievement Medal from The University for her outstanding contributions to the literary life of The University of Manchester’s Centre for the New Writing.

During the course of her MA, and in the face of the challenges of lockdown, Kathryn initiated, developed and produced the ‘Podcast for New Writing,’ an exciting new series exploring the experiences of emerging writers.

As the podcast’s host, producer and editor, Kathryn brought to the project an impressive portfolio of skills, with the podcast also providing her fellow MA students with a platform to discuss their creative practice. The podcast production will be continued this year by current MA student Alienor Bombarde and will soon be available online.

In addition, while completing her MA, Kathryn also became Managing Editor of the MA in Creative Writing Anthology MANY, cementing her exceptional contribution to the course and The University.

On winning the award, Kathryn said: “This award is such a lovely surprise. Making the podcast, chatting to all the fab writers on our course, and helping bring this year’s anthology to life, have been the saving graces of my 2020. I’m so grateful to all of the brilliant people who I’ve worked with, and can’t wait to see what emerges from this next writing cohort.”
