Centre for New Writing students launch Manchester Anthology 2018

Manchester Anthology 2018 front cover.Students from the Centre for New Writing have launched the 2018 edition of the Manchester Anthology.

The Manchester Anthology 2018 brings together the work of 27 talented new writers from the Centre.

All the students featured are currently studying for a Master’s in Creative Writing. This year’s Anthology features novel extracts, short stories and poetry and is introduced with a foreword by Kamila Shamsie, Senior Lecturer in Creative Writing and winner of the 2018 Women’s Prize for Fiction for her novel Home Fire.

‘There are many spine-tingling moments in this anthology. What I can’t do here is show you the breath-taking moments, built up to sentence by sentence or sometimes swerving towards you with no warning. I can’t hold up for you the great weight of emotion held within sentences of exquisite stillness or reveal leaps of imagination that create new worlds or re-create the familiar one we thought we already knew. Only the writers can do that. Read them. Your spine will thank me.’ – Kamila Shamsie, Winner of the 2018 Women’s Fiction Prize.

The students are celebrating with a Manchester Anthology 2018 launch event at HOME on 6 September 2018 from 5.30pm.

Free tickets for the event are available. Book online.

The event includes a drinks reception and readings by some of the Anthology’s writers and poets, and from the established author, Beth Underdown.

A limited number of copies of the Manchester Anthology 2018 will be on sale at the launch, and from Blackwell’s Bookshop, priced at £7.50.

The Anthology is also available to view online (free).
