A senior lecturer in drama has been chosen by University of Manchester students as their favourite lecturer.

Dr Rajinder Dudrah bagged two awards: best overall lecturer and best Humanities lecturer at the Manchester Teaching Awards organised by the Students' Union .

Other winners included teaching assistant Alfie Brown from the School of Arts, Languages  and Cultures who won best postgraduate teacher and nurse lecturer Julie Apps who won best personal advisor.

The Manchester Teaching Awards were held with the Students’ Union Awards, and attended by over 500 people.

The Students Union received nearly 700 nominations from 1300 students across the university, all of whom were eager to nominate lecturers and support staff.

Nominees were shortlisted and the winners chosen by a panel of course reps from across the University.

Dr Dudrah was praised by the students for making the learning experience dynamic and interesting as well as being enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

Nick Pringle, General Secretary at the University of Manchester Students’ Union said: “The evening was a great occasion, recognising all the students who give so much to the union, university and wider community as well as those excellent members of staff.

“The awards covered many areas of university life, and it was fantastic to have so many nominations this year.

“This year’s event was bigger than ever, with great contributions from the Bangladeshi Student Society and the Beatboxing Society.

“We hope the awards will continue to grow and next year’s will be bigger and better still.”

Dr Dudrah said: “Winning two best lecturer awards is a real honour - especially as it is a result of students' votes. I dedicate  the awards to them, for inspiring me in my teaching and research ,and also to my teachers, past and present, for showing me the way.”
