Four-year anniversary of Manchester City of Literature

Manchester City of Literature logoNovember 1 sees the fourth anniversary of Manchester's successful bid to join UNESCO’s worldwide Creative Cities network as a City of Literature.

Cities of Literature share strategies to make their literary and creative sectors thrive. Collaborations have included World Poetry Day, International Literacy Day, Translation Day, and International Mother Language Day – which Manchester leads on.

Manchester boasts two of the country’s most highly regarded writing schools – our Centre for New Writing and the Manchester Writing School at Manchester Metropolitan University – plus Manchester Literature Festival, one of the most popular literary events in the UK. It is home to a flourishing live literature scene and world-class publishers including Carcanet and Comma Press.
