HCRI host annual Mapathon
HCRI have hosted their annual Mapathon, with approximately 40 students, academic and support staff from HCRI and the department of Geography voluntarily participating.
The Mapathon involved the volunteers tracing 20,000 features (roads, huts, buildings, etc) to the poorly-mapped region of Acholi in Uganda on satellite photographs.
The open source mapping aimed to contribute to an ongoing project coordinated by Dr Jonny Huck, which serves to improve the delivery of healthcare and prosthetic limbs to people who were mutilated during conflict in northern Uganda.
