Manchester graduate appointed to prestigious conducting position

Music graduate, Ellie Slorach has been appointed 'Young Associate Conductor' for the upcoming tour of Matthew Bourne's new production of Prokofiev's, Romeo and Juliet.

Matthew Bourne, with his ballet company - New Adventures - will be touring the UK including a month of dates at Sadler's Wells, between May and October, 2019.

Ellie will be working with conductor Brett Morris, assisting in the orchestral and production rehearsals before the show goes on tour. When the orchestra moves from venue to venue, Ellie will also act as a pair of ears, sitting in the audience seats to check for balance. She will also be taking some piano rehearsals with the dancers and orchestral rehearsals later on in the tour.

Ellie says:

"If it weren't for the conducting programme at the University of Manchester, I know I wouldn't be doing what I'm doing now in my freelance conducting career. The course gave me unparalleled podium time and tuition in front of the numerous and varied ensembles of the Music Society; everything from Wind Orchestra to a Handel opera!"
