Manchester hosts fourth Composites@Manchester Research Workshop

The University of Manchester has hosted its fourth annual Composites@Manchester Research Workshop, an initiative that aims to bring together early career researchers to share their work in the field of composite materials.

Taking place in the Sackville Street Building on 25 and 26 June 2019, the event welcomed more than 80 students, researchers and academics. Various schools throughout the University's Faculty of Science and Engineering were represented, and other attendees came from across the UK and Europe. Director of the University's Aerospace Research Institute and Northwest Composites Centre Professor Constantinos Soutis opened the event.

Keynote speeches were delivered by Dr Yan Liu of Cygnet Texkimp on the potential role of composite materials in the fourth industrial revolution; Dr Matthieu Gresil of The University of Manchester on multi-scale modelling of graphene reinforced polymer composites; and Dr Yu Shi of the University of Chester on the challenges associated with damage modelling and prediction in multifunctional composite materials.

Participants were able to share their research through oral and poster presentations - and those in the poster presentation competition pitched their research in a quick-fire, two-minute single-slide round.

Find out about the winners - and more about the workshop itself - on the School of Materials blog.
