Manchester International Law Centre launches transnational legal action clinic

Manchester International Law Centre partners with Global Legal Action Network to enrol students in a clinical international law in practice project.

Manchester International Law Centre(MILC) and University of Manchester School of Law are proud to announce a new partnership with Global Legal Action Network (GLAN) to provide a year-long clinical project for international law students.

Established in late 2015, GLAN is a unique consortium of academics, practitioners, and investigative journalists that take legal actions across borders against powerful actors involved in human rights abuses. GLAN’s work aims to innovate and reconceptualise approaches to the use of international and transnational law and legal processes to challenge global injustices.

Co-ordinated by visiting researcher Dr Valentina Azarova and MILC PhD student David Scott, GLAN-Manchester plugs undergraduate and Master's students into GLAN's networks and ongoing work. Over the course of the year, students will carry out research in support of ongoing GLAN legal actions and media interventions, providing invaluable support to the organisation and developing the students' practical and critical-thinking skills in the process. GLAN-Manchester is intended to also act as a hub for other events and activities that connect MILC's expertise to the world of practice.
