MUARG researchers author blog on COVID-19 and social inequality

The team from MUARG have authored a further blog in their series for Policy@Manchester. The pieces focus on COVID-19's impact on older people, inequalities and community.

The latest blog, published on 22 February, argues that given the unequal impact of COVID-19, a community-centred approach is now urgently needed to help stop the spread.

The piece examines the particular issues faced by the BAME community and asks why there was a failure to co-ordinate preventative forms of community-centred working with BAME groups from the beginning of the pandemic. It also highlights for care homes there was a systemic failure to safeguard a highly vulnerable group.

MUARG (Manchester Urban Ageing Research Group) have chronicled the effects of the pandemic on the older population with a series of written pieces for various blogs, academic papers and new qualitative research. MUARG's research into coronavirus can be viewed on the MICRA site.
