Newly appointed Professor Maxine Peake to feature in conversation

To celebrate her appointment as Honorary Professor of Literature and Performance at The University of Manchester, award-winning actress Maxine Peake will feature in conversation on International Women’s Day.

One of the nation’s favourite actresses, RADA-trained Maxine Peake has enjoyed a prolific career as a theatre, television, radio and film actress. Her career highlights include The Theory of Everything, Shameless, Dinnerladies, Three Girls, and many other award-winning TV dramas and theatre productions.

In 2020, Maxine Peake became an Honorary Professor of Literature and Performance at The University of Manchester, as well as an ambassador for Creative Manchester. While her inaugural event was unable to take place as planned last year, an even bigger celebration is planned for 8 March 2021, when a global audience can tune into Maxine speaking with our very own staff and students.

Featuring in conversation with Professor of Poetry John McAuliffe and Professor of Drama Maggie Gale, Maxine will reflect on her appointment at the University, while offering unique insights into her glittering career. The event coincides with International Women’s Day – a worldwide celebration of the role that women play in society – and so you can also expect topical conversations surrounding the experience of women in the creative industries.

Afterwards, there will be an audience Q&A section curated by and featuring students from the Centre for New Writing’s Playwriting and Screenwriting MA courses – a unique opportunity for our students to pose questions to one of the country’s finest actresses.

The event begins at 7pm, and is accessible via Zoom. All are welcome, and you can register for free via Eventbrite.
