Pensions on Divorce work continues with article in Child and Family Law Quarterly

‘Pensions on divorce: where now, what next?’ analyses the Wealth and Assets Survey to consider current pension accumulation among couples.

MICRA's Professor Debbie Price has co-authored a journal article with Dr Jennifer Buckley. The peer-reviewed piece, titled ‘Pensions on divorce: where now, what next?’ was published in the esteemed family law journal Child and Family Law Quarterly. It provides an analysis of the Wealth and Assets Survey to consider current pension accumulation among couples.

This is a continuation of the ongoing work Professor Price is involved in regarding the topic of Pensions on Divorce. Professor Debora Price was a lead author of the Pension Advisory Group (PAG)s ground-breaking 2019 report 'A Guide to the Treatment of Pensions on Divorce’. She continues to work closely with the Pensions Advisory Group and the Pensions Policy Institute.

The article tackles three questions:

  1. A review of what has happened in pension outcomes for divorced men and women since the Act came into force.
  2. Looking at statistical analysis of the Wealth and Assets Survey to consider current pension accumulation among couples, what scope there might be for pension sharing in the event of divorce, and what the current situation looks like for divorced men and women.
  3. What the future might hold.
