Renowned arts troupe ushers in Chinese New Year

The Confucius Institute, at The University of Manchester, is playing host to a renowned arts troupe from Beijing Normal University today (Monday) to ring in the Chinese New Year of the Dragon in front of an audience of students, staff and members of the public.

The Confucius Institute Spring Festival Gala, which is fully booked,  will feature traditional Chinese dance, a Shaolin King Fu demonstration -  including some bare-handed brick-breaking -  Chinese folk music played on traditional instruments, poetry, calligraphy and choral song.
 
The troupe have toured extensively, playing to audiences in China, America and Europe  to encourage a broader understanding and appreciation of the Chinese arts.

After the performance, guests are invited to attend a drinks reception and will have the opportunity to meet the performers.

The event takes place on Monday, 30 January. Doors open at 5.45pm, show starts 6.15pm at the Academy II, Manchester University Students' Union, Oxford Road, M13 9PL
