The Guardian asks what an age-friendly city would look like?

Professor Chris Phillipson and research at MICRA features in an article in the Guardian newspaper highlighting issues relating to age-friendly cities.

The article summarises the range of initiatives underway in what is a priority area within public policy. Researchers at Manchester are leading the way in developing work in this area, linking closely with local authorities in Greater Manchester, voluntary organisations, and research institutes in mainland Europe.

Chris tells the Guardian: “We need policies that have a real impact on the urban development that is taking place. If the environment is hostile to people on low incomes, that impacts disproportionallyon older residents. Cities must not think about housing and town planning policies in isolation. Age-friendliness needs to be part of the debate about urban development.”
