David Armitage graduated with a BSc. in Electronic Engineering at University College of North Wales, Bangor in 1972 and later received his PhD. "A Hybrid Communication Systems Simulator", also from Bangor, in 1976. He was appointed as a Design Engineer at VG Micromass Ltd in 1976, developing instrumentation interface equipment for mass spectrometers. He returned to Bangor as a Research Officer where he worked on developing specialised radiofrequency heating systems for the hyperthermic treatment of cancer and also developed EM modelling methods to aid with treatment planning. He moved to UMIST in 1985 as a Lecturer. He is now a member of the Sensing, Instrumentation and Signal Processing (SISP) research group within the School of Electrical and Electoninc Engineering at The University of Manchester.
