Max Migliorato studied Physics between 1991 and 1998 at the University “La Sapienza” in Rome, Italy, specializing in Solid State Physics with a dissertation on Magneto-Optical Spectroscopy of Semiconductor Quantum Dots. The experimental work was entirely carried out between 1997 and 1998 in the highly rated Low Dimensional Semiconductors & Nanostructures group in the Department of Physics and Astronomy of the University of Sheffield (UK). Following the successful defence of his dissertation, he obtained a scholarship from the UK Defence and Evaluation Research Agency to pursue research for a PhD in the Electronic and Electrical Engineering Department of the University of Sheffield, which he was able to start only in September 1999 due to his military service obligations. He  worked on Atomistic Simulations of Semiconductor Materials, linking those to the world class experimental activities in Electron Microscopy and Epitaxial Growth of nanostructures at the National Centre for III-V materials and devices. After being awarded his PhD in July 2003 he briefly worked in the same group as a Research Associate till May 2004 when he was awarded a prestigious Royal Academy of Engineering – EPSRC Research Fellowship.  He then successfully obtained an initial Grant from the national Research Council (EPSRC) and was able to start a successfull semiconductors modelling activity. In February 2007 he was awarded an RCUK Fellowship, as a consequence of which he moved in March 07 to the School of Electrical and Electronic Enginnering of the University of Manchester, where he joined the Microelectronics & Nanostructures group as a Research Fellow.

Since March 2011 he is a Lecturer in the same School, with research in modelling of electronic materials. For more information see his web page:
