David Clarke has served the University of Manchester in various roles including in the Centre of Excellence for Biopharmaceuticals,  Photon Science Institute  and, in the Faculty of Medical & Human Sciences: as  Associate Dean for Business Development (2008 - 2012),  as  Head of School of Pharmacy (2008 -2012), as Deputy Head & Director of Resources (2002 - 2007) when the School progressed into new accommodation,  and  as Director of Research (1997 - 2002) when the School achieved RAE 5*.

David Clarke has served in UK government health and industry department agencies as Head of Strategic Research at the Laboratory of the Government Chemist, and Chair of the Research Committee and Head of Detection at the Public Health Laboratory Service Centre for Applied Microbiology and Research.

David Clarke has been involved in the spin out and development of over 10 companies, serving variously as chair of the board, CEO, company secretary, director and CSO.


David Clarke teaches medicines design, pharmaceutical microbiology,  biopharmaceutics, biologics, drug delivery and nanomedicines in Year 2, Year 3 and Year 4 of the MPharm and biologics in the PgDip Clinical Pharmacy in the Manchester Pharmacy School.
