Simon trained and qualified as a nurse prior to studying social policy at the University of York and going on to train as a social worker in Hull. Following practice in care management in adult services he furthered his interests in dementia care by working in the voluntary sector with the Alzheimer's Society. Prior to taking up the position of course leader for the dementia care MSc in Manchester Simon set up and ran a dementia charity in the East Midlands called the Trent Dementia Services Development Centre. His interests cover many aspects of dementia care, but in particular: care homes, acute hospitals and assitive technologies and people with dementia.

Simon is the Pathway Lead for the MSc in Dementia which forms one of the three postagraduate pathways in the Advanced Interventions in Mental Health programme.

Social Responsibility

Simon is a Dementia Champion and runs Dementia Friends sessions as part of the University of Manchester's Dementia Friends inititiative. Simon is also a Trustee for the Charity: Trent Dementia Services Development Centre which runs the website.
