The University of Manchester offers a wide range of scholarships to US students. Many of these are awarded on academic merit.
Global Futures Scholarships 2025
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 330 awards to international students commencing their studies in September 2025. The total value of scholarships offered will be over £4.5 million, and awards will be open to prospective bachelor’s and master’s students.
Undergraduate awards
The University of Manchester is proud to offer more than 100 merit-based undergraduate scholarships of £24,000 to international students from a selection of countries across the globe.
The Global Futures Scholarships for North America are open to applicants domiciled in the US.

If you apply before the UCAS Equal Consideration Deadline (29 January 2025) you will be sent an application once you have applied. If you apply after this date, you must be holding an offer by 12 March to receive the application form from us.
Each award comprises £8,000 for the first year of study with a further £8,000 awarded in the second and third years of study, conditional on attainment of 60% average in each year. Scholarships will be awarded in the form of a discount on published overseas tuition fees.
Students must be taking one of the following qualifications: Advanced Placements (AP), Dual Enrolment, A-level, IB, US High School Diploma.
Scholarships will be awarded based on academic excellence, predicted grades and your responses to questions in the online application form, which will be emailed to all eligible applicants and offer holders.
Awardees will be selected based on academic merit, but we will endeavour to achieve a balance in the allocation of the awards by gender, domicile, qualification type and course of study.
Please note the application form will only be made available to you once you have applied and/or received an offer.
- Applications will be considered from international fee-paying students domiciled in the United States.
- To be considered domiciled in the US, you must have predominantly resided there during the last three years and not for the purpose of full-time education. This includes non-US students living in the US to attend an American college or university.
- If applying to the US awards after 29 January 2025, applicants must hold an offer to study a full-time on-campus undergraduate course at The University of Manchester for a course starting in September 2025 and must submit an online scholarship application form by 13 March 2025. The application form will be emailed to all eligible offer-holders.
- Applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2025 and have, or be working towards one of the following qualifications:
- Advanced Placement
- Dual Enrolment
- A-levels
- IB Diploma
- US High School Diploma
- Applicants for the USA awards must have accepted (made firm) a conditional or unconditional offer to study a full-time programme at Manchester by 23 May 2025.
- Scholarship applications from AP, Dual Enrolment, A Level, IB and US High School Diploma students will be assessed on any previous examinations, predicted grades in the above-listed qualifications and the strength of the personal statement.
- Scholarships for US students will be based upon grades attained following the results release in January 2025 and the strength of the personal statement.
- Applicants must be self-funded (for example not sponsored by an external government agency or commercial funder). FAFSA recipients are eligible to apply for this award.
- Applicants for blended and distance learning programmes are not eligible for the award.
- Applicants for Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS), Architecture, or any courses with an integrated foundation year are not eligible for the award.
- If applying to the US awards before 29 January 2025, applicants will be emailed the application form once an academic application has been made. Scholarship applications must be made by 13 March, 2025.
- Applicants who have previously studied at a higher education institution in the UK are not eligible for the award.
- The application form will be emailed automatically to all eligible applicants shortly after an academic offer is made.
- Awards offers will be made by 17 April 2025 and will be conditional on academic performance as outlined in the full terms and conditions linked below.
- Applicants must have selected The University of Manchester as their FIRM UCAS choice by 23 May 2025.

Awardees must accept their course offer and pay their CAS deposit, if required, by no later than 25 July, 2025. If no deposit has been paid by this date, the award may be withdrawn.
In addition, a number of other faculty, school and programme-specific scholarships are available to students from North America.
For PhDs the University offers a number of competitive bursaries via individual Schools and research groups for well-qualified candidates. Please check with your prospective academic School for details and check the University’s postgraduate research funding database.
We are pleased to have funded a Fulbright-University of Manchester Award for master’s study for September 2023 entry.
We have previously hosted Fulbright scholars undertaking master’s courses in Law, Social Anthropology, International Relations and Development Economics.

The University offers Marshall Scholarships for graduate study in any subject at either master’s or doctoral level (excluding the MBA). In 2016 The University of Manchester welcomed five Marshall scholars to a wide range of programmes.
Previous Marshall Scholars have studied a wide range of subjects, including MA Humanitarianism and Conflict Response, Art Gallery and Museum Studies and MSc International Development.
The North America Foundation for The University of Manchester is an independent foundation that supports our work to enhance our reputation in the US. The aim of the award is to provide a range of prestigious master’s scholarships to attract excellent students to our University. Invitations will be sent to eligible applicants as per the criteria laid out in the terms and conditions linked below.
The value of the NAFUM Scholarship is £8,600.

Some of our Schools will offer partial scholarships or bursaries; however, these do not always cover the full cost of tuition and living expenses. Details will be advertised on the relevant School website when scholarships are available.
The Alliance Manchester Business School is offering master's scholarships for US residents for 2024 entry.
Five scholarships are available across all Alliance Manchester Business School master's courses, with a value of £10,000 towards the tuition fee. The scholarships will be awarded in line with our application deadlines, so early application is advisable.
