How to apply

To apply for The University of Manchester’s exchange programme, use our online application system.

As part of the application process, you must complete, scan and upload (and in some cases, email) certain supporting documents, including:

  • your most recent academic transcript;
  • English Language Proficiency Certificate (if applicable);
  • fall assessment approval form (if applicable) (PDF document, 50KB).

The above documents can be submitted via the online application system.

Additional documents

There is an additional exchange partner or agent/representative nomination form (PDF document, 50KB) that exchange applicants should complete, please email this to exchangestudy@manchester.ac.uk.

You don't need to send us hard copies of anything once you have submitted your application online.

Remember that before you apply to us you must follow your home university’s application procedure to secure their nomination as an exchange student.

Choosing your course units

After you have submitted your online application, you will receive an email asking you to navigate to a Course Unit Selection portal where you can select the course units you would like to take with us (this may take a couple of days).

Students on the Study Abroad programme can take undergraduate course units only. Students should not select any postgraduate level course units (such as those with a course code that begins with a '4').

Online application

  • Apply online (Following this link will take you to a screen headed 'Postgraduate Applicant Sign On'. Please ignore this heading; this is the correct form to complete.)

Application deadlines

  • September entry – 1 June
  • January entry – 1 November (extended to 15 November in 2021)

Please note that for January entry you should apply as early as possible, particularly if you wish to study any of our high-demand course units.

We review and process applications in order of the date received. At busy times, it may take 4 to 6 weeks for us to process an application and issue an offer letter.

If you have any external deadlines that you are working towards (such as a deadline for an external scholarship), please make sure you submit your application to us at least six weeks before your external deadline.

Applying for accommodation

If you wish to apply for University accommodation for the duration of your study with us, there is a separate online accommodation application procedure that you must complete.

You cannot apply for accommodation until you have received your formal offer letter.
