Course description

Our part-time master's-level CPD units in Approaches to Mental Health Theory are aimed at mental health and healthcare professionals who want to stay up to date with the latest research and other developments within contemporary mental health services.

Our courses have been designed to enhance your knowledge and skills in current complex issues in mental health, and include:

  • Critical Decision Making
  • The Role of the Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP)
  • Applied Psychiatry
  • Applied Mental Health Law
  • Best Interest Assessor

The focus of the units is on mental health, with emphasis on the integration of mental health issues, psychiatry and mental health law in multi-disciplinary teams from a social perspective.

The lecturers will reflect this multi-disciplinary approach and will include psychiatrists, lawyers, psychologists, nurses and social workers, as well as service users and carers.

You will also learn how to translate research insights into practice.

We also offer The Assessed and Supported Year in Employment for Newly Qualified Social Workers (Adult and MH).
