Course structure

 

This online course has been designed to support working professionals who would like to study part-time. The flexibility of this course allows you to study alongside your other commitments and gain a University of Manchester qualification from anywhere in the world. You may be already working within the fashion marketing industry, or have a strong passion for the subject area. This course combines academic excellence with the development skills that are essential for a career in the global fashion industry and will enable you to work and study simultaneously. With CIM accreditation you can be confident that this course has the benchmark of quality and will be recognised by employers internationally.

 

Course learning aims

This course will equip you with the skills and knowledge that allows you pursue a successful career in the fashion industry. Core units provide a solid grounding in fashion marketing from the perspective of the retail brand, the consumer and broader society.

  • You will get a comprehensive understanding of the role of fashion marketing within fashion brands.
  • You will develop your critical thinking and your ability to present sound, well justified arguments and solutions to complex problems, recognising the interconnected nature of fashion business practice.
  • You will draw on the world-class research and practical experience of the Department of Materials, together with our excellent links to the industry, to enable you to explore new insights in areas such as sustainable development and strategic management of fashion businesses. 

Teaching and learning

The course is delivered through a mix of teaching and learning methods including online lectures, guided reading, online discussions and online group tutorials. Feedback is provided online and there is always opportunity for formative feedback before final assessment submission. Assessment is 100% coursework.

Entry requirements

Academic entry qualification overview

We welcome applications from those who hold a 2:1 UK Honours degree or an international equivalent. We also accept those who have an approved combination of education qualifications and industry experience.

We will also consider students with the following background and qualifications:

  • Students with a 2:2 UK Honours degree or international equivalent must have at least 3 + years' professional experience, plus evidence of career progression and a recognised degree OR
  • Industrial placement years and year-long internships within relevant sectors would be included within the 3 + years' work experience requirement.

English language

English language

All applicants will need to demonstrate competency in English language. Applicants who do not already possess an acceptable English Language qualification will need to take a recognised test and attain the required English Language score:

  • IELTS:  at least 6.5 overall with no sub-test below 5.5.
  • TOFEL iBT:  at least 90 overall, with 20 in speaking and no sub-test below 18.  We do not accept 'MyBestScore'.
  • Pearson PTE: at least 58 overall with no sub-test below 42.

To apply for the MSc International Fashion Marketing you will need to submit a complete application, which includes the application form and all of the following application documents. 

  • CV

Your CV is an important part of our assessment. It should include details of your academic qualifications and any academic distinctions, honours or awards. If you have work experience, include each job you have taken since graduating, starting with your current position; include bullet points of your key responsibilities and achievements.

  • Degree transcript(s) and certificate(s) or professional qualifications

If your original document is not in English, you must provide a translation from a certified translation. Your transcript(s) should show; the type of degree awarded, the date you started and the date your degree was conferred (date of graduation), the courses you took and the marks you achieved, your final result (classification, GPA or average grade), and the grading scale from the university where you are studying.

  • English Language score report or acceptable evidence of English language competence (if applicable)

You will need to provide official evidence that your English language ability meets the University of Manchester minimum requirements and is sufficient to enable you to fully participate and be successful in the programme.
