First class honours degree or, exceptionally, a very good upper second class honours degree in mathematics or appropriate related discipline.

Other eligibility criteria
Candidates must have applied to do PhD research in the School of Mathematics and will be required by EPSRC to satisfy certain formal UK/EU residence criteria as stated by EPSRC and revised by the UK courts.
Application procedure
Applicants should highlight on their application form that they wish to be considered for EPSRC DTA funding, in the first instance. If a student is nominated for possible EPSRC funding they will be sent a DTA nomination form to complete by the school to ensure that residence criteria are satisfied.

Selection criteria
The department holds two funding meetings each year to allocate DTA funding. A shortlist of DTA applicants is also drawn up at these meetings in case a student withdraws from the programme. The most important criterion for selection is the merit of the student, subject to supervision resource constraints.
