In 2023, NWCDTP is offering ring-fenced studentships* for applicants from socioeconomically unequal backgrounds in the UK via the Broken Pipeline studentship. In addition to this, NWCDTP is offering a Philosophy Pathway studentship for a female scholar (including any candidate identifying as a woman). The Philosophy Pathway studentship is open to Home and International candidates. Applicants from these groups will also be considered as part of the open competition.

* Applicants wishing to apply for one of the ring-fenced studentships will have the opportunity to identify themselves on the application form as wishing to be considered for these targeted studentships. Their applications will be considered as part of the standard award competition and will be subject to the same assessment criteria and schedule.

Academic requirements

+3 (PhD)

Bachelor's (Honours) degree (or overseas equivalent) at 2:1 level or above in a cognate subject, and normally a Master's degree at 65% overall average with minimum 65% in dissertation and with no mark below 55% (or overseas equivalent) in a relevant cognate subject, preferably one with a substantial research methods component.

+2 (24 months for Current PGRs)

You must be enrolled upon a PhD Programme at the University of Manchester, with at least 2 years remaining, and you must meet the academic requirements for +3 funding, specified above.

1+3 (Masters followed by PhD)

UK Bachelor's degree (or overseas equivalent) at 2:1

Eligible applicants must complete and submit the AHRC NWCDTP Application Form by 5pm GMT, 3 February 2023. Please note that this is a strict deadline and applications received after 5pm will not be included in the competition. The completed AHRC NWCDTP application form, together with your transcripts and references, must be submitted to the School of Social Sciences Postgraduate Admissions Co-ordinator at pgr-soss-admissions@manchester.ac.uk.

You must also submit your  programme application by the dates specified below. This is to ensure you hold an offer of a place by the time the NWCDTP committee make their selection. Otherwise, you will not be included in the competition.
