Academic requirements

Candidates must satisfy the entry requirements for PhD programmes in the School of Social Sciences.  Further information can be obtained from the programmes website .

Other eligibility criteria

Applicants must hold an offer of study at The University of Manchester before applying for this funding.

Candidates will be citizens and permanent residents of the People's Republic of China at the time of application; overseas Chinese students may be eligible for application subject to CSC policy at the time; (CSC publicises the policy in October or November every year).

Successful candidates must return to China upon completion of their studies and/or research.

Candidates must hold an un-conditional offer from the University of Manchester.This excludes offers conditional upon completion of a current masters degree

Candidates should satisfy the selection criteria set out by CSC.

PGR students who have already started a PhD are not eligible.  

Application procedure

Candidates should submit a full on-line application , including supporting documents (research proposal, CV, two academic references, degree certificates and transcripts and English language evidence) by 16 January 2023.

Candidates should specify on their application form that they wish to apply for the University of Manchester/CSC joint scholarship scheme.

Selection criteria

The University of Manchester will evaluate candidates and rank them in priority order and will send the candidate and CSC a copy of the offer letter.
