Academic requirements

Applicants must hold, or expect to achieve, a Masters-level qualification, which we would expect to be at Distinction level, or equivalent, and have a First Class Bachelor's degree (or non-UK equivalent).

  • MPhil students are not eligible to apply for this studentship.
  • Current PhD students are not eligible to apply for this studentship.

Please provide an outline of your financial circumstances in no more than 300 words, explaining clearly why you would be unable to complete a PhD without financial support. Put your full anme and date of birth at the head of this statement. Your application should be accompanied by evidence of financial need. Please send photocopies rather than original documents. Types of evidene that might support your case incude: 
  • Evidence from your undergraduate institution that you were in receipt of a low income University bursary during the course of your undergraduate degree, and particularly in your final year.
  • If you are living with a parter, a copy of their P60 or statement of benefits.
  • Evidence of your current earnings or a statement of benefits.

Selection criteria

Applications will be ranked according to two key criteria; academic track-record, and the quality of the Research Proposal.
