Our standard lectures are delivered online, where we use interactive technology such as Padlet and VoiceThread to facilitate interaction between staff and students.

Students across Modern Languages have been able to complete a diverse range of assessment tasks, including video essays, building digital timelines, and curating their own virtual exhibitions mapping the links between different countries.

Where possible, seminars and language classes take place face-to-face in socially distanced arrangements, with masks.

If it is not possible to attend, there is an online alternative that will take the form of a Zoom group discussion.

All students are assigned an Academic Advisor who they are guaranteed 1-2-1 meetings with.

Modern Languages students are also allocated a Peer Mentor in their second or final year that they can meet with or chat online.

All lecturers have weekly office hours where they can be consulted by students online.

Student support

A welcoming environment

Modern Languages and Cultures at Manchester has an extremely active community that welcomes students from all over the world.

You’ll make friends through your course and society activities, and get support in your studies from older students through our peer-assisted student support scheme.
