Erica Martini / LLB Law
LLB Law is a specialised undergraduate degree which enables you to develop the skills, knowledge and professional network to be highly employable, whether you have ambitions to practise law or enter a different field of work.
You will learn the necessary subjects of a law degree, as well as choosing from a range of optional units offered by our diverse team of law, criminology and ethics specialists.
Studying at one of the UK's most international universities means you have opportunities to develop connections with legal practitioners and industry professionals from across the world.
Our commitment to improving local communities will expose you to the real impact of our work and research, and offer unique opportunities to develop the awareness and practical experience needed to forge your career.
Special features
Volunteer at the Legal Advice Centre
You are offered the opportunity to work in one of the School's award-winning Legal Advice Centres , where you can help provide free, confidential legal advice to the public, under supervision.
If there is a particular area you are interested in developing further, you can volunteer for relevant clinics to gain specific knowledge.
LegalTech and Access to Justice
We embed Legal Tech into our education and training.
You will be taught by experts in LegalTech, allowing you to explore digital futures for the legal profession, and gain the skillsets needed for the next generation workforce.
Student societies
Getting involved in a society is a great way to enhance your CV and develop transferable skills and experience by, for example, organising an end-of-year ball, maintaining a website or acting as a treasurer.
Our two main course societies are student-led and organise social, career and academic-related events, and specialised groups to help you make the most of your time at Manchester.
Study abroad
Studying abroad allows you to experience and understand different cultures and perspectives, while broadening your academic studies and discovering different styles of education.
We have built excellent relationships with numerous partner universities both within and outside Europe where you study in English.
Teaching and learning
Contact hours of lectures and seminars amount to 10 and 12 hours per week. You will spend about 40 hours per week studying, in total.
Lectures are delivered to a large cohort of students, covering an overview of a particular subject.
Seminars are for small groups of up to 12 students where you discuss and present aspects of a legal topic which you are learning. You are expected to prepare in advance for the discussion and submit written work for each subject.
If you take the study abroad route, you will complete course units in your host university, taught in English, which may focus on Law subjects, or include other topics of interest.
We also offer skills sessions throughout the year, working in conjunction with academics, local and international lawyers and our Careers Service to enhance your academic progression and employability. In addition, weekly in-sessional classes are offered to help you with English research and essay-writing skills.
