Overview

The course unit will cover the following key stages:

• First phase - introduction to the project brief and baseline analysis and evaluation;

• Second phase - series of workshops to explore key issues, opportunities and constraints related to the project;

• Third phase - generation of appropriate management response with recommendations.

 

Aims

The unit aims to:

  • provide students with practical experience in undertaking assessment and management of an environmental issue
  • introduce students to the roles of the range of various practitioners and stakeholders involved in managing the environment
  • Enable students to demonstrate the full range of their knowledge relevant to an environmental management issue set within an existing project.
  • enable students to utilise fully the self-learning capabilities learnt during their programme and to demonstrate them in a student-led group project

Teaching and learning methods

The course will be delivered through weekly workshop sessions and a site visit.

  • Design and implement the required stages of environmental management projects
  • Understand current trends in environmental management

  • Design and implement a methodology for data collection and analysis to address a brief
  • Undertake desk-studies, e.g. review of academic literature, policy and guidance

  • Analyse and synthesise various forms of data
