Overview
The course unit will introduce the following content areas:
- Sociological and Psychological perspectives relevant to leisure and the leisure industries
- The role of leisure in the formation of self and identity
- Leisure motivation
- Concepts, meanings, structure and functions of leisure and work, relationship to work.
- Leisure and social differentiation.
- The 'person' and leisure-experiences, attitudes, lifestyles, age and life cycle.
- Leisure and social exclusion.
Aims
This unit aims to:
- Explore leisure in society through a sociological lens, bringing sociological insights and theories to bear on understandings of leisure participation, definitions, and its role in society and in people’s lives.
