  • The unit explores the changing nature of the relationship between professional sport and society through the study of a number of topics including:-
  • The commercialisation of professional sport
  • Sports demand and consumption patterns
  • Marketing and sponsorship
  • The role of the media
  • The labour market
  • Sports governance
  • Competitive strategy for sports organizations

 A multidisciplinary approach to the subject is adopted by reference to the following disciplines:-

  • Economics
  • Finance
  • Law
  • Marketing
  • Management
  • Sociology
  • Strategy

Aims

  • To introduce students to the main characteristics of the modern sports business
  • To examine the changing nature of the relationship between professional sport and society
  • To explore some of the challenges faced by management in contemporary sports organizations
