University of Manchester scholarships and bursaries

This funding information relates to EU students commencing their studies in 2019.

Some Faculties and Schools/Departments across our University have their own scholarships that are awarded on the basis of specific criteria.

The application process varies from Faculty to Faculty. We therefore advise you to contact the relevant department for your subjects.

We will update these pages with further information as bursary and scholarship packages are confirmed for 2019 entry.

Alliance Manchester Business School –

Social Responsibility Scholarships
£2,000 per annum across three years of study

UK/EU and international students achieving AAA at A-level (or equivalent) who are able to demonstrate a significant contribution and commitment to social responsibility. One of our international scholarships will be awarded to a student who has successfully completed an international foundation year immediately prior to starting their studies at Alliance MBS.

Successful applicants will be identified via both academic performance and a written application. The deadline for applications is 31 August 2019.

Alliance Manchester Business School –

International Stellar Scholarships
£2,000 per annum across three years of study

International students (classified as overseas for tuition fee purposes) who are residents of Singapore, Malaysia or Norway and achieve AAA at A-level (or equivalent). You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to both your academic studies and a range of extra-curricular pursuits.

Successful applicants will be identified via both academic performance and a written application. The deadline for applications is 31 August 2019.

BP Achievement Awards

£1,000

Available to first and second year undergraduate students in the following discipline areas: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences (including Geology), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics.

Students on relevant courses are invited to write a 1,000-word essay on a specific subject. There are up to three awards available per Department each year. We usually promote these scholarships in December, with a closing date in February. Students are selected on the basis of their entry qualifications / first-year examination results, and the content of their application/essay.

Science and Engineering BP STEM Scholarship £3,000 Available to first-year undergraduate students in the following discipline areas: Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Earth and Environmental Sciences (including Geology), Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, and Physics and Astronomy.

Students on relevant courses are invited to apply to BP online (normally in November of their first year). Students are selected on the basis of their applications, online tests and an interview. The scholarship is renewable each year based on examination performance.

Kilburn Entry Scholarships £1,000

New UK/EU ('home' tuition fee) students who are applying for first-year entry and achieve an A*A*A (A* in Maths). These grades must be achieved at the first sitting.

Other UK, European and international qualifications gained by ‘home’ tuition fee students will also be considered for the award, subject to academic approval.

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Success Scholarship £1,000

UK/EU students who achieve A*AA at A-level or equivalent (A* in Maths, Physics, Electronics, or Further Mathematics).

Students are awarded £1,000 during their first year of study.

You will automatically be considered for this award, as nominations are made by the admissions office. Successful candidates are informed at the end of October and paid in December.

Materials Science and Engineering Programmes £5,000

Outstanding UK/EU and international applicants for all Materials Science and Engineering courses will be eligible for an automatic Department of Materials and Faculty scholarship, with a total value of £5,000 if you achieve A*A*A* grades at A-level (or equivalent), or £3,000 if you achieve grades A*A*A at A-level (or equivalent).

Entry Scholarship up to £1,000

For the first year of study, regardless of income, this Scholarship is awarded to UK/EU students gaining A*AA grades at A-level on Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering courses. The A* must be in Maths.



You do not need to apply for this scholarship, students who meet the criteria will automatically be selected.

Students in need of financial support who have applied to start an IET accredited MEng or BEng degree course and expect to achieve a minimum of three Bs at A level (or equivalent).
