Accommodation

Living in University accommodation gives our international students security and their family back home peace of mind; our halls are self-contained communities where students can quickly make friends and feel at home. We offer guaranteed accommodation to international students who meet certain criteria.

As an international student coming to Manchester for the first time, you’ll benefit from the opportunity to live and study alongside British students, in a safe and welcoming environment.

With over 8,000 rooms in 19 halls, we offer a variety of types, costs and locations. Much of our accommodation is very near to the main University buildings and all of it is within two miles (three kilometres) of our campus.

Halls and facilities

The range of halls and types of rooms we offer is extensive: from modern self-catering flats through to traditional college-style catered halls of residence. You are assured of your privacy as all rooms are single occupancy.

Both single and mixed-sex accommodation is available, and there is the option of en suite or shared bathroom facilities. We offer specially adapted rooms for students with disabilities. All rooms have an Internet connection.

Facilities vary between halls, but many have their own social areas, libraries, music rooms and sports facilities.

We aim to ensure that our catered residents have choices available to meet most common dietary requirements, whether based on cultural, medical, philosophical or religious needs. Residents opting for catered halls will be asked about their dietary requirements in advance and we will ensure that these are met, including halal meat, vegan, vegetarian and pescatarian options.

Fees

University accommodation represents great value for money.  Residency fees covers WiFi, personal possessions insurance and all utility services.  Typically fees for 2024/25, based on a 40–42 week letting period, can range between:

• £113–£127 per week for a single self-catering room with shared facilities;
• £171–£258 per week for a single self-catering room with en-suite facilities;
• £164–£186 per week for a single room with shared facilities in a catered hall.

Fees vary according to the hall and/or room facilities. Please consult our Accommodation Office website for details of individual hall prices.

Safety and support

Student safety is one of our highest priorities. Security guards patrol 24 hours a day and cameras are located throughout the campus. Most halls have student swipe-card entry systems and each residence has a team of wardens and tutors who live within the hall to offer help and guidance.

Private accommodation

Manchester has a large supply of private rental accommodation in areas close to the University. Manchester Student Homes operates on behalf of the city’s universities to help students find University-approved accommodation in the private sector, and it provides useful general housing advice and listings of available properties.
