Applying for undergraduate study

University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS)

All UK and international students must apply for an undergraduate programme of study through the University and Colleges Admissions Service (UCAS).

The University of Manchester's UCAS code is M20 MANU.

Please note that UCAS charges an application fee.

Application dates

You can apply through UCAS from the 1 September each year for entry in the September of the following year.

For example, if you wanted to begin studying in September 2010, you can apply from 1 September 2009.

The deadline for international students' applications is 30 June, however it is important to apply as soon as possible because some programmes of study become full quickly.

If you are applying for programmes in Medicine or Dentistry, the deadline for applications is October 15 in the year before you would like to begin studying.

If you have missed the applications deadline, you may still be able to apply for a course using the "clearing" system or "UCAS Extra", but this is not usually applicable to Medicine and Dentistry programmes.

Tracking your application

When you have completed your application, UCAS forward it to us. It is then sent to the Admissions Officer of the programme of study you have applied for.

Each applicant is considered very carefully and you will be contacted by post when a decision has been made about the success of your application.

You can also keep track of your application's progress on the UCAS website.

If your application is successful we will make you an offer of a place on a programme of study. This offer will be one of two different types:

After you have received your offer, you should tell us of your acceptance by using the UCAS procedure of Firmly (F) accepting your place. You do not need to know your examination results to do this.

Deferred entry

Many subject areas allow applications from students who would like to defer their entry by one year, especially if they are using the time to gain skills that are useful for their programme of study.

If you would like to defer, please check that deferred entry is allowed before submitting your UCAS application.
