Our International Advice Team offers help and advice to all international students studying at The University of Manchester on issues such as:

• Academic problems
• Accommodation issues
• Childcare and schools
• Council tax
• English language courses
• Finance and funding
• HOST programmes
• Immigration issues (Extending your stay, inviting friends or relatives to visit, enquiries from prospective students, visiting another country for a holiday or field studies)
• International Society
• Personal or family issues
• Work and work permits

Immigration advice

The International Team is authorised by the University to provide immigration advice and assistance under the terms of the Immigration Services Commissioner's exemption scheme which came into force on 30 April 2001.

In 2009 the UK introduced a new points-based system for immigration. Tier 4 of this system affects international students from outside the EEA/EU who are applying for entry clearance or a student visa to come to the UK, or those who are already studying in the UK and applying for a new course.
