Biography

I was born locally (Buxton, 1945) but moved around widely before coming back in 1976. In the interim I had been active in the professional performance of early music, with Musica Reservata in London but most particularly with the Studio der fr?hen Musik in Munich and Musica Mundana in California. It was mainly playing viols and other early instruments but also with something of a career as a continuo harpsichordist. Somehow priorities had to be set, though, and most of that was pushed aside to make way for a growing interest in musical research.

Association with the professional playing world is now mainly in occasional help with recordings and sporadic reviewing, though I have continued to play the viol and recently found an interest in playing the double bass with local amateur orchestras.
