Mike Sutcliffe joined the School in 2005. Prior to that he was an EPSRC/NATO Postdoctoral Fellow and Junior Research Fellow at the University of Oxford, then a Royal Society University Research Fellow, Lecturer, Reader and Professor at the University of Leicester.
Mike's research interests focus on the use of computational methods to study, at the atomic level, biological processes mediated by proteins. In particular, he studies processes underpinning biological catalysis, electron transfer, proton transfer and ion transport. A range of bioinformatics, cheminformatics and computational chemistry techniques are used to spearhead hypothesis-driven interdisciplinary studies. He is a member of the Manchester Interdisciplinary Biocentre.
