Colin came to the University of Manchester in 2000 from the University of Glasgow, and is Professor of World Prehistory and currently Head of Archaeology. Since undertaking his PhD he has specialized in the Neolithic of Orkney. Through a series of research projects into this area of prehistory (co-directed with Prof. Jane Downes, Dr Richard Jones and Prof. Sian Jones) he has published a trilogy of monographs (Dwelling among the monuments, Cambridge:  McDonald Monograph 2005; Building the great stone circles of the north, Oxford: Windgather Press 2013; The development of Neolithic house societies in Orkney, Oxford: Windgather Press 2015). He has also written numerous papers on the Orcadian Neolithic.
