Biography

I was elected to a Simon Research Fellowship at the University of Manchester in October 2005. Previously, I completed my PhD at the school of Geographical Sciences in the University of Bristol. I also taught undergraduate and postgraduate modules in the Department of Politics during this four year period. In July 2004, I joined CCSR as a research assistant where I worked on a Joseph Rowntree Foundation research project with Professor Ed Fieldhouse examining electoral registration and turnout in South Asian communities at the 2001 general election. From September 2007, I will take up a five year post in the Institute of Social Change (ISC), Manchester-Harvard initiative.

I am joint co-ordinator of the Election, Political Parties and Political behaviour group in CCSR as well as being a prominent member of the CCSR Social Statistics group. I am also a prominent member of the cross-disciplinary Centre for Democracy and Elections group in Manchester. Furthermore, I am an active member of the UK Political Studies Association, American Political Science Association (APSA) and the elections’ specialist group ‘EPOP’ (Elections, Public Opinion and Parties).
