I graduated at the Dental Faculty, University of Oslo, Norway in 1969 and took my Orthodontic Diploma in Oslo in 1974. I joined the Oslo Cleft Lip and Palate Team in 1974 and became Head of the Team's Dental Unit in 1987.
I completed my PhD in 1992 and was appointed Adjunct Professor at the University of Oslo in 1995.
I joined the University of Manchester, School of Dentistry in 1995 where I am Senior Lecturer in Craniofacial Anomalies. I was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 2002.

I teach undergraduate and postgraduate students as covered by local arrangements. I also regularly teach at the Wythenshawe Outreach Clinic.
I give lectures to:
Predental/premedical students, dental hygienists, orthodontic nurses, clieft lip and palate nurses, 3rd year undergraduate students, postgraduate students and House Officers.
I give seminars to postgraduate students on cleft lip and palate and craniofacial anomalies. I also hold study days on Cleft Lip and Palate for FTTAs (Fulltime Training Appointments) for the NUC (Northern Universities Consortium). These study days are usually held in Manchester and are attended by FTTAs from various North of England Universities.
