Role

I currently work as a Research Associate on the METRIC (ME: Education, Training & Resources in Primary Care) and CLAHRC (Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care) patient theme projects:

  • METRIC is a Research for Patient Benefit (RfPB) funded project led by Professor Carolyn Chew-Graham that aims to develop culturally sensitive training and resources on Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ME for health professionals and patients.
  • The CLAHRC patient theme is funded by the NIHR and local partner organisations and aims to improve healthcare and reduce inequalities in health for people with chronic vascular conditions (http://clahrc-gm.nihr.ac.uk/). Semi structured questionnaires with patients explore the properties of their social network that support or undermine self-care. This has informed a patient-led assessment for network support (PLANS) tool to link patients with health-relevant community support with the aim of strengthening their social network. PLANS has the potential to develop patients' informal sources of support and reduce social isolation, and also reduce the burden on NHS resources.
