Biography

Nazia Chaudhuri is a consultant physician with a specialist interest in Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) at the University Hospital of South Manchester and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at the University of Manchester.  She graduated with a first class honours degree in medicine and genetics in relation to medicine at the University of Leeds in 1999. She then worked as a respiratory trainee in the South Yorkshire deanery. During this time she performed a PhD looking at the effects of air pollution in particular diesel particles on the airways. She has publications and reviews related to her PhD work and continued with her research interests as an NIHR Clinical lecturer.

She has developed an expertise and clinical interest in managing patients with ILD and has built upon this during her time at UHSM. She has been involved in improving the service by setting up a regional network aiming to improve patient care in the North West region. She has developed a patient database and is involved in clinical trials in Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF). Dr Chaudhuri has published her work managing people with IPF in peer reviewed journals and has presented work at national and international conferences such as the British Thoracic Society (BTS), European Respiratory Society (ERS), American Thoracic Society (ATS) and the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation (PFF). She has developed a website about the work that is done at the North West ILD unit (www.northwestipfmanchester.weebly.com).

She is an elected member of the BTS ILD Registry committee, the BTS council and BTS standards of care committee and has been involved in writing the BTS bronchoscopy guideline.

Teaching

UNDERGRADUATES:

I am an academic supervisor at the University of Manchester Medical School.

I also have a regular teaching committment to third year medical students who rotate through the respiratory department.

POSTGRADUATES:

I have organised and delivered the CMT and FY1 foundation programme respiratory teaching.

I am an educational and clinical supervisor of many trainees and am UHSM supervisor of the year (2014).
