Patricia Thornley joined the University of Manchester in 2003 as a part-time research fellow on the Supergen bioenergy consortium, studying technical, economic, environmental and social aspects of bioenergy. Her career prior to that included 8 years as a consultant, providing technical advice to investors on biomass and waste projects. She now leads the systems analysis theme of the renewed Supergen consortium and also leads a task on non-technical barriers to bioenergy in the European Thermalnet network. She is a chartered physicist and has served as an honorary officer on the Institute of Physics energy group. She is a member of the steering committee of the UK's national biomass energy centre, has served as an appointed member of the UK government's Renewables Advisory Board and on advisory committees for the Carbon Trust's biomass sector review. Patricia works three days each week: usually Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
