International fees for master’s students
All international students are charged the same rate of tuition fee for all years of their master’s course, with the exception of courses where clinical and non-clinical fees apply, and part-time courses studied on a modular basis.
For part-clinical courses, students will be charged at the science fee rate for non-clinical years and the clinical fee rate for clinical years of study. For modular courses the fee per module will increase annually.
Fees vary for each master’s course. Details of individual course fees can be found in the course profiles.
The cost of postgraduate study in the UK
Studying in the UK can be great value for money. UK degree courses are generally shorter than in the US and Australia because they are more intensive – full-time postgraduate master’s courses are only one year compared to two in most other countries.
This makes a postgraduate course in the UK more efficient in terms of your time and your money.
Tuition fees cover the cost of your master’s study at the University and include charges for registration, tuition, supervision, examinations and graduation.
Payment of fees will also entitle you to membership of the University of Manchester Library, the Students' Union and the Athletic Union.
Any offer of a place at the University is made on the understanding that you have sufficient funds to pay for your tuition fees and your living expenses for the entire duration of your period of study.
Returning international students
International students who commenced their studies before September 2007 will pay tuition fees that vary in amount for each year of study and should check the Student Services website for the exact fee.
Paying your fees
Tuition fees can be paid by the following methods:
- Personal cheque (sterling only)
- Building society cheque (drawn on a UK account)
- Banker's draft (in sterling)
- Credit card
- Debit card
- Direct debit (requires a UK account)
For more information on methods of payment please visit the Student Services Centre website:
Deposits for master’s courses
International students undertaking a one-year taught master’s degree are required to pay a tuition fee deposit before an electronic Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) can be issued. A CAS is an essential document for students applying for a student visa under Tier 4 of the Points Based System (PBS). For all courses, the deposit will be offset against the fee when you register.
