Home/EU or international fees?
Tuition fees are set at different levels for home/EU and international students. The following questions may help you understand whether you are eligible for home/EU fee status:
- Are you a British or EU national – are you eligible to hold a British or EU passport?
Will you have been resident in the UK, European Economic Area (EEA)* or Switzerland for the three-year period before the start of your studies at the University?
* The EEA includes all EU member countries plus Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein.
Can you confirm that the purpose of your residence in the UK/EEA during the three-year period prior to the start of your studies was not fully or mainly for the purpose of receiving full-time education?
- Have you been granted indefinite leave to enter/remain in the UK?
Have you lived in the UK for the three-year period before the start of your studies?
Was the main purpose of you residency not for full-time education?
If you answer yes to all of the questions in either (1) or (2), you will be eligible for home fee status.
Please note that students living in the Isle of Man, Guernsey and Jersey are classified as international students for fee purposes. However, there are other ways in which you can be eligible for home fee status and these are fully explained in the UKCISA fee assessment guidelines.
For universities in the UK the guidelines for assessing a student's fee status are set by the Department for Education and Skills in the Education (Fees and Awards) Regulations 1997. Guidelines for fee assessment are set out by UKCISA (the UK Council for International Student Affairs):
The information you submit on your application to study at the University will be used to determine your tuition fee status. In some cases we may require additional information from you. If this is the case, you will be informed in your acknowledgement email or letter, which we send to you shortly after we receive your application. This letter may instruct you to fill in and return our Tuition Fee Assessment Form along with relevant supporting information.
