Lindy Crewe's research interests lie in all aspects of the Eastern Mediterranean, particularly the Bronze Age of Cyprus. She is interested in archaeological ceramics as correlates of material identity, the mechanisms of social transformations, as well as the relationship between material culture and social identity. Current research focuses on connections between Cyprus and the northern Levant at the end of the Middle Bronze Age, specifically the interactions indicated by the appearance of new styles of plain wares on Cyprus.
She has a strong interest in fieldwork and was Field Director of the University of Edinburgh excavation of the Chalcolithic cemetery at Souskiou-Laona from 2001–2006. From 2007 she has been directing excavations at the Early/Middle Bronze Age settlement of Kissonerga-Skalia in the southwest of Cyprus. This period is almost completely unknown in this region of the island and the project hopes to investigate local responses and regional differences/similarities to settlements in other parts of the island as well as settlement shift and structural change though time.
