Jodrell Bank

Research departments' facilities

As part of our campus masterplan for the University, we have built and are continuing to build a 21st century campus with cutting-edge research departments and facilities.

In the last ten years we have spent more than £750 million on transforming our campus and building a world-class environment for outstanding scholars, teachers and internationally acclaimed research teams. This is the largest investment ever seen in UK higher education history. We will invest a further £1 billion by 2022.

The University boasts the world-famous Jodrell Bank Observatory, the Manchester Institute of Biotechnology and the Photon Science Institute. We will soon be home to the National Graphene Institute and the Manchester Cancer Research Centre.

The University of Manchester Library is one of the world's greatest research libraries and holds more than 4 million printed books, some 40,000 e-journals, 500,000 e-books, several hundred databases and many special and rare collections.

Facilities and resources for industry

The University of Manchester's world-class analytical equipment and facilities are primarily used to support our teaching and research activities. However, we also allow our extensive range of state-of-the-art facilities and apparatus to be used by business and industry.

Our facilities and services cater for a wide range of needs, and include library services and an incubation centre for fledgling businesses.
