Entry requirements

General requirements for undergraduate courses

The University of Manchester welcomes applications from holders of the Vitnemal - videregaende opplaering (generell studiekompetanse). Entry requirements vary across Schools, but in general we will be looking for grades of 5.0 and 6.0 in relevant subjects, and a minimum of 4.5 overall excluding extra points.

Other qualifications from Norwegian students are also considered - please email liz.green@manchester.ac.uk for further information.

General requirements for postgraduate/research courses

A bachelor's degree at grades A-C from a recognised institution will be considered for entry to postgraduate study. For PhD programmes requiring detailed previous subject knowledge, a master's degree at grades A-C may also be required.

English language requirements

Candidates who have achieved a minimum of 4.0 out of 6.0 in English in the Certificate of Upper Secondary Education (Vitnemal) may not be required to provide further evidence of English language ability. Candidates with less than 4 out of 6 would normally be required to take an IELTS or TOEFL test.

Other entry requirements

Please note that this is generic information only. Faculties and Schools have different entry requirements and some qualifications may not be acceptable for certain courses, so it is important to check with the School directly before you apply.

Some courses have additional entry requirements such as previous work experience, submission of written work with the application or previous study of a particular subject.
