Addressing imbalances in the representation of our student community, we are pleased to announce the award of two fully funded PhD scholarships for students residing in the UK who are eligible for home fees and who identify as being black-heritage (encompassing African, Caribbean, and black-mixed heritage).

Funding details:

  • 3.5 year fully-funded studentship
  • Tuition fees
  • Minimum annual stipend of £17,668 for the duration of the scholarship

Specified use

This scholarship is open to students residing in the UK who are eligible for home fees and who identify as black-heritage (encompassing African, Caribbean, and black-mixed heritage).

Academic requirements

To be considered for this award you must:
  • Hold (or be about to obtain) an upper second class honours undergraduate degree in the following disciplines (or related disciplines) Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Fashion Business Technology, Materials Science and Engineering, Mathematics or Physics and Astronomy

Nationality restrictions

This funding is available to students from:

  • England
  • Northern Ireland
  • Scotland
  • Wales

Other eligibility criteria

You must also:
  • Identify as black-heritage (encompassing African, Caribbean, and black-mixed heritage)
  • Reside in the UK
  • Be eligible for home fees
